She's also been on the faculty of the Department of Biology at the University of Southern California, and the Graduate Psychology Department at Pepperdine University.

In addition, Dr. Laura holds multiple trophies for sailboat racing, and is a Black Belt in martial arts. Dr Laura’s tenth and newest book, "The Proper Care and Feeding of Marriage" was released by HarperCollins in January, 2007. She has been married to Dr. Lewis Bishop for 22 years. Their son, Deryk, enlisted in the US Army in 2005, so Dr. Laura now considers herself best known as the "proud mother of a deployed American paratrooper."
